Cash Colligan – Ashes Video

On April 29, 2014 Cash Colligan released a song and video “Ashes (Fall Out Boy Remix)” to YouTube.

There has been some controversy with this song and it has been out for only 24 hours. As a fan of The Cab, I can say I enjoy this rap. It is clever and entertaining. Many fans of The Cab are upset by this song and video and, while I can see why, I find it to be harmless.

Song Review:

One Word Description: Bold

This song comes in two parts. The first part is an homage to Fall Out Boy and the second the story of his history with The Cab.  The first part is genius. Cash cleverly incorporates Fall Out Boy song titles into his lyrics. It is clear how much he respects and admires the band. Part two is a bit darker. Cash was a founding member of The Cab, but left the band a number of years ago. In this rap, he shares his experience of being in the band and tells what he thinks of them now. Lyrically, this rap is great. He relates what he wants to say in a catchy way.

Video Review:

One Word Description: Shocking

In the video, Cash is seen burning old school The Cab merch. He throws everything into the fire from CDs to a drum head to clothing items, even some picture of him with the members. During the burning scenes he is even wearing a marred The Cab tshirt from years ago. The scenes fit in with the second part of his rap. These scenes were not quite upsetting for me, but I would have rather not watched them. This is mainly for the reason that I would have loved to take all that stuff off his hands so he didn’t have to burn in. All in all, this video is very well done and it sends the message that he is done with The Cab. He is over anything that may have happened in the past.
